What could possibly be better than a day spent on the water fishing with friends and enjoying the sights and sounds of nature? So long as you’re well prepared for the day, you could spend hours out in the boat fishing or just relaxing.

Of course, part of being prepared is making sure you’re well stocked with snacks for the day. The last thing you want is to get hungry and uncomfortable while you’re supposed to be on a relaxing fishing excursion.

So, what are the best snacks to take on a boat? Here are a few tips for you to consider as you pack for your next outing:

  • Sandwiches: Sure, sandwiches might not be exciting, but they’re easy to make and easy to pack. If you’re out on a short fishing trip, you can make any kind of sandwich you like and take it out with you. They will fit in just about any container, and you can wrap them in foil or put them in a cooler to keep them fresh for a longer time. Whether it’s a simple PB&J on wheat or a fancy turkey club on sourdough, there are plenty of options that will help you satisfy your hunger.
  • Nuts: Nuts are rich in nutrients and quite healthy. You can easily carry them in a bag or pocket. They’re a great example of a snack you can just absentmindedly chew on without having to worry much about the health effects they’re having on you. In fact, nuts lower bad cholesterol and provide you with high doses of proteins and antioxidants.
  • Pizza: Unlike nuts, pizza isn’t exactly a healthy option, but it sure does fill you up quickly, and it provides you with a good dose of calories. Plus, pizza is naturally a finger food, meaning you can eat it standing or sitting and not have to have other utensils nearby. You can bring a hot pizza or use cold pizza leftovers.
  • Hot dogs: If you’re going on an overnight fishing trip, hot dogs are an easy food to cook over a fire or on a small gas camping stove. They don’t take up a whole lot of room in a cooler, they’re easy to cook and they never let you down. Plus, they’re perfect if you’re bringing kids along with you!
  • Bananas: While most fruits are not well suited to bringing on extended outdoor trips, bananas work quite well as a snack in a fishing boat. They may not provide you with many calories, but they fill you up, give you a good dose of fiber and potassium and have their own natural packaging, meaning you don’t have to worry as much about wrapping them up before you go.
  • Jerky: Jerky is often recommended as a snack for people hiking on trails, and it’s just as good to take in a fishing boat. It’s easy to pack, gives you good protein and energy and stays good for long periods of time. Plus, it’s delicious.
