Essential Items to Pack for Your Next Chartered Fishing

Are you headed on a chartered fishing trip? If so, you want to ensure that you have the most important items packed ahead of time. This can be a little stressful when you aren’t sure what to pack for a fishing trip. Don’t panic because we’re here to help with a list of fishing charter essentials. Also, you probably have most, if not all, of these essentials already!

Clothing

Don’t assume that because you are traveling to an exceedingly warm destination you don’t need to take a few layers of clothing with you. Even these warm destinations can experience a significant drop in temperature once you get offshore. Plus, if you board early in the morning before the sun rises, you will need the right clothing to keep you warm.

Some important items to pack include:

  • Windbreaker (protects you and your clothes from the water sprays and the wind)
  • Shorts (if it’s warm enough; otherwise, long pants!)
  • Light-colored clothing (reflects the sun and keeps you cooler)
  • Non-skid rubber-soled shoes (so you don’t slip!)

Sun Protection

If you’re heading to a warm destination, such as a tropical island, then you may have already packed your sunscreen. However, there are a few other fishing charter essentials that you should pack to ensure you’re properly protected from the sun and wind.

Some important items to pack include:

  • Sunscreen (helps you avoid getting a sunburn)
  • Brimmed hat (protects your face from the sun)
  • Polarized sunglasses (reduce the glare on the water so you can see your target better)
  • Lip balm (protect your lips from burning and chapping)

Storage

Just as you would when you go fishing locally, you need to take some storage containers with you to take home the fish you catch and protect the items you’re taking on board with you.

Some important items to pack include:

  • Backpack (to hold your supplies for the day)
  • Collapsible cooler (this can hold drinks and snacks and/or the fish you catch, if permitted)
  • Water bottle (keeps you hydrated while out at sea)
  • Waterproof bag (protects your electronics and paper documents)

Miscellaneous

While protecting your skin and personal items is important, you also don’t want to forget some other important items. These will help improve your overall experience.

Some important items to pack include:

  • Camera (for memories of the trip and to have proof of that trophy catch!)
  • Swimsuit (some charters may allow you to take a dip in the water)
  • Hand towel (to keep your hands clean)

This is not an all-inclusive list, but it consists of the more critical items you need to take on your next fishing charter trip. If you have questions about what to pack for a fishing trip, don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
