Cast From the Boat or Wade From the Shore?
Every angler has his or her own way of doing things—techniques, methods, comfort zones and more that you’ve developed over many years of casting a line. They might just be small nuances in your technique that set you apart from others or they could be steadfast ideals that you stand by—no matter what your preferences, know that you’ll be accommodated on your Alaskan fishing trip!
One of the biggest questions that we’re often asked by prospective anglers is whether or not they can cast from a boat, the shoreline or both. The answer is both! Whether you prefer the comfort and maneuverability of a boat or you’re the type of fisherman that likes to step into waders and fly fish from the coast, we’re here to make sure that you’re in your comfort zone at all times.
Which prospect is better?
If you don’t have a preference where you’re casting from, allow us to give you a few pointers about which possibility might present more of an advantage for you on your Alaskan fishing trip. When it comes to King Salmon and other massive fish varieties, we recommend being out on the water. Why? Take a look at a few of the reasons:
- King Salmon are fearsome fighters and will do everything they can to escape your snare. Being able to hook them closer to the boat means landing them sooner, before they have a chance to bolt.
- It’s easier to rely on others in a boat to help you bring your catch aboard or cut it loose if the battle is too much.
- You have the ability to move locations easily if nothing is biting in the current area.
Now, just because there are a few great reasons to saddle up a boat doesn’t mean that shoreline anglers are out of luck! In fact, if you’re more comfortable on the shore, where you can plant your feet and dictate the tide of a struggle, by all means, break out those waders!
